I’ve never really liked the idea of a ‘Bucket List’, but as I get older I kind of understand them more. As I inch closer to ‘Middle-age’ I am beginning to feel like my time is running out. Especially since there is so much I haven’t had a chance to see or do yet. If you had asked me ten years ago if I had a bucket list I would have laughed. But here I am sitting in my office dreaming of all the things I want to do and see and actually making a list of them! Some people laugh at my list because it doesn’t seem attainable to them. But, I know that with enough determination I will check all of these and hopefully more off of my list!
Camino de Santiago – The Camino de Santiago or the Way of Saint James is a pilgrimage across spain. The Camino is a network of pilgrims’ ways or pilgrimages leading to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. Many follow its routes as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth. The most popular routes to take are: Camino Frances, Camino Primitivo, Camino Portugues, and Camino del Norte. One night while surfing for something to watch on Netflix, I came across a movie called The Way. If you haven’t watched it yet I HIGHLY recommend that you do. I had never heard of the Camino de Santiago before watching this movie. I am so happy I stumbled upon it though because it definitely changed my life. I can’t wait to take my own pilgrimage.
The West Highland Way – The West Highland Way is located in the Highlands of Scotland. It is only 96 miles long, so this means you can do it within a week. It generally starts in either Milngavie or Fort William if you want to change it up a bit. Some of the terrain can be a bit strenuous but that doesn’t mean a novice can’t do it. I only learned about the West Highland Way a couple of years ago and decided to add it to my bucket list. I was thinking of going to Scotland for a little vacation when I ran across the information for it. Hopefully in the next few years I’ll be able to cross this one off of my list!
Te Araroa – The Te Araroa was another one of those cases of me searching for things to do in a country. This country happened to be New Zealand. Ever since The Lord of The Rings came out, I have been dying to get to New Zealand. Before then it honestly wasn’t a country I thought much about. While searching for things to do, I came across the website for the trail. It is my understanding that this Trail, or parts of it are rather difficult so you should only attempt them if you have experience backcountry. The websites says it takes anywhere between 50-80 days per island. So if you want to trek this trail, you will definitely need to take into account your fitness level and time. The website for this trail is VERY informative, so if you think you might be interested I highly recommend you check it out.
Egypt – Egypt is a place I have dreamt of since I was a little girl. Reading about the pyramids of Giza, swimming in the Nile, learning about the Valley of Kings, etc. It was a place that seemed magical to me. For a time I even wanted to be an Egyptologist! So of course Egypt is on my bucket list.
Mount Everest – I know people think I am crazy to want to attempt to trek to Mount Everest. But, I’m not crazy enough to try to climb it completely! I just want to get to the base camp. I think Mount Everest base camp has to be my biggest item on this list. I know if I work hard toward my fitness goals I’ll get there one day!
As you can see I have quite the Bucket List! I truly believe I can accomplish most if not all of these things if I just put my mind to it. Now to kick my self into gear to get in shape to accomplish all of this. Do you have a bucket list? If so what’s on it??
